NEWS FROM OUR PRESIDENT, DAVID KYLEN
"We have been talking at our Chapter get togethers about trips on Ryanair for a small group of less than a dozen. Our new member Jose brought the subject up and I decided to check it out. I got a ticket for 33 euros to Barcelona. My last visit there was 40 years ago and my memories of that trip are quite different from my experiences on this trip. In those days Spain was cheap and different; now it is expensive but the same generally speaking.
Ryanair was good to me. The service was friendly. The aircraft was quiet - no music, no television so no distractions. The Spartan cabin was clean but the seats did not move so at least no one could crash back into my small space. One pays for everything. No pillows or blankets. I took a small bag and put it on the floor because the overhead luggage space was full. The aircraft, however was not full with passengers. Their claim to fame is they are on time and we were actually a little early both ways. I am happy to say I was not put off from flying with them again.
The airport bus took me to Plaza Catalunya, the center of the city and the beginning of several large streets that went like spocks across the city, including the famous Rambla.
First stop was the Cafe Zurich at the top of the Rambla for coffee. This as a relaxing trip back to a Europe of decades ago. Waiters in white coats, white towel over the left forearms, calm demeanors. The interior is dark brown wood of 100 hundred years ago. The building is of classical design with beautiful stone work. It was a wonderful place to watch the world go by while I was waiting for Noon so I can go to my room one block away. The place is full of young people, as the University is closeby. It is cosmopolitan here. MORE NEWS ABOUT MY VISIT NEXT MONTH."
CHAPTER LUNCH, THE BLACK HORSE, 25TH JANUARY 2011
The first monthly chapter lunch in 2011 was held at "The Black Horse", Dutch owned Restaurant and Bar in central Fuengirola near the Plaza de Picasso. The food was delicious and the service excellent.

Conversation was great and everybody enjoyed themselves. Murray, our vegetarian said the mushroom soup, specially prepared for him was the best he had ever had; the specially prepared omelette was also very good
A big thanks to David Kylen for organising the lunch and to all the staff at "The Black Horse"
