The small village of Macharaviaya  (located 25 Kms.  East of Malaga and 11 Kms from Rincon de la Victoria)  will again this year celebrate American Independence  in which its most famous native son,  Gen. Bernardo de Galvez, played an important part.   Galvez won two decisive battles against the British forces in Pensacola  and Mobile,  thereby securing the Southern front in the Gulf of Mexico.

Macharaviaya has recently been twinned with Pensacola, Florida  and  the keys of the city were brought to the village by a delegation of the Order of  Grenadiers and Ladies of Gálvez who visited the village in May of this year.

The festivities will take place on Saturday, 3rd of July beginning at approximately 8.00 p.m.  and will include a parade of local residents  in period costumes,  a re-creation of the battle of Pensacola,  live music,  barbequed meats  and fireworks.
