What’s in the name - May

"The name for the month of 'May' has been believed to derive from 'Maia', who was revered as the Roman 'Goddess of Springtime, of Growth and Increase', and the mother of 'Mercury', the winged messenger of the Gods.  Yet this is disputed as before these deities featured in mythology the name 'Maius' or 'Magius', taken from the root 'Mag', meaning the 'Growing month' or 'Shooting month' was used."



Special note 1:

On   Wednesday evening, 12th May at 7.30 p.m., there will be a concert at St. George´s with an all male Welsh choir. Tickets are only €5.00 per person with a drink included.  Let Rosella know if you can attend.  Proceeds will be shared with CUDECA.  Also, St. George´s Spring Fayre is on Sunday, 23rd May at noon (after the service) in the forecourt of the church in the English Cemetery. 

Special note 2:  

On Friday, May 14th at 8:00 p.m., an International Quiz Night will be held at the Restaurante el Nuevo Ventorillo in Rincon de la Victoria.  The Quiz Master is one of our own American Club members, Stephen Manson. Future International Quiz Nights will be held every 2nd Friday of the month [except July & August] and proceeds will benefit of A.P.A.R.i.V., a small animal protection society located in Rincon de la Victoria. The International Quiz Night will consist of truly international questions (not just British) with prizes for winning teams plus a raffle with more prizes. A full evening menu with half raciones is also available. Directions: From the autovia at the Rincon exit, drive downhill toward the sea and take a left (go 3/4 of the way around) at the first round-a-bout (featuring dolphins) onto Ctra del Benagalbon / MA-3200.  The restaurant is just after the autovia underpass on the left. 13th May Luncheon
Rincon Sol Hotel

Our May luncheon will take place on the 13th at our home base restaurant, Rincon Sol Hotel on the sea front in Rincon de la Victoria. Guests are always welcome. Luncheon price is €18 per person. Time is as normal – 1:00 for 1:30 pm.  Please contact Rosella with your menu selection before Tuesday, the 11th.  We look forward to seeing you all there.
