Ambassador ALAN D. Solomont Arrives in Madrid
Alan D. Solomont, the new Ambassador of the United States, arrived in Madrid this morning to assume his duties as President Obama’s envoy to Spain and Andorra. The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Susan, and his two daughters, Becca and Stephanie.
The Ambassador released the following statement upon his arrival:
I feel extremely fortunate and deeply honored to have been asked by President Obama to be his personal representative to Spain. The histories of our two nations are deeply intertwined, and so I believe are our futures.
Spain and the United States already share a deep and broad partnership, between our two governments and between our peoples. Finding opportunities to strengthen that partnership will be one of my most important priorities as ambassador.
We are so excited to be here in Spain and look forward to deepening our understanding of your rich and diverse culture and our common history. We celebrate your vibrant democracy, and through the lens of that democracy, the many accomplishments the Spanish people have achieved.
