A Visit with ex-members – Byron & Pat Thompson
There are not many people who would invite you to stay for as long as you wish and even fewer who are genuinely sad to see you leave after almost two weeks, but Pat & Byron Thompson did just that. Either that or they managed to put on a good show!!
Despite the fact that Patricia was still putting the finishing touches to their new home and that Byron was finalizing the launching of his new ‘about-to-be-a-bestseller’ book ‘Build Your Dream’ - 12 Essential Tools for Successful Living, they devoted each day to ‘spoiling us rotten’. They wined and dined us, threw a cocktail party in our honor and invited virtually all the neighbors, took us up mountains and down silos (the site of the last Titan missile in existence), and into Mexico. We visited Tucson, Tombstone – scene of the Gunfight at the OK Corral, and Gordon & Byron even found time to play golf.
Their home is on a golf resort in Tubac, Arizona, only 20 miles from the Mexican border and the location allows them to follow their interests. However, despite being so near Mexico, Patricia says that her Spanish is not improving. Perhaps this fact alone will make them think about spending some time here where there are plenty of golf courses to keep Byron occupied.
They were very keen to hear news of the club members and sent their very best regards to those they knew. Perhaps we can look forward to a visit from them during 2010.
Margaret would like to pass on to the members that she has now added another 4 to her list of ‘states visited’. The total now stands at 16 and she is hoping to reach all 50. I hope that my hip and pocket will hold out!!!
Byron’s book can be seen and purchased through his website: www.byronethompson.com.
Some Interesting Quotes by Will Rogers
Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash with Wylie Post in 1935, was probably the greatest ‘political sage’ this country has ever known. Enjoy some of his following quotes:
1. Never lap a man who’s chewing tobacco.
2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
3. There are 2 theories to arguing with a woman….neither works.
4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
5. Always drink upstream from the herd.
6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back in your pocket.
8. There are 3 kinds of men: The ones that learn from reading. The few who learn from observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.
9. Good judgment comes with experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment,
10. If you’re riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it’s still there.
11. Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier’n puttin’ it back.
12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your mouth shut.
Season's Greetings to all our members and friends
and best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year
