After serving three and a half years as the Chief of Staff to the U.S. Ambassador in Spain and Andorra, Marc Sanderson has accepted the position of Director of International Development for the City of Málaga, Spain.  Mayor Francisco de la Torre has asked him to enhance the international presence of Málaga, especially in the United States, and to help make the city a model for knowledge and innovation.

Málaga is experiencing a special transformation in its history. During the last few years, the city has taken significant strides toward realizing its vision of becoming an open metropolis that looks out onto the Mediterranean Sea, that is Picasso´s Málaga, that enjoys a high quality of life, that respects the environment and that is the technology and economic capital of Andalusia as well as the tourist and diversion capital of Europe.

The Technology Park of Andalusia, located in Málaga, has enjoyed significant growth since its inception in 1992 and today is home to more than 500 companies and employs close to 15,000 people.  Currently a group of business leaders and politicians are working together to design the necessary policies and guidelines to solidify  Málaga as the European “Silicon Valley”, known for its technological excellence as well as Research and Development investments.

Marc appreciates knowing that there are other Americans in the area and he looks forward to working with them in the future.   The American Club of the Costa del Sol would like to extend a warm welcome to Marc and his wife, who is from Malaga.
