FMB CHAPTER MEETING, REGINA´S RESTAURANTE, FUENGIROLA PORT, 8TH JUNE 2010
The meeting was called to order at 1115 hours by David Kylen, the President.
The minutes of the last meeting were read out by Secretary Barbara Oldridge and the Treasurers´ report was read out by your Editor; both were approved by the members present.
June Whitton in the Entertainment Chair said the the 4th July Bar-b-que was arranged for Caribbean Bar, on the Paseo Maritimo. See below for further details. She also said that because so many members are usually away, there would be no Chapter Lunch in September.
David said the American Day at the Parque Miramar Commercial Centre, Fuengirola had been a great success. He also said the management of the Centre had been invoiced for expenses incurred by FMB during the event and we expected to receive the money back within the next month.
David said that a meeting of the Central Board of the American Club of the Costa del Sol was held at the El Gusto Restaurant, La Cala on June 3rd 2010. The proposal to form a Federation was discussed and it was concluded that the individual Chapters could act independently within the existing framework so it was not considered necessary to go the complicated process of forming a Federation
Our guest speaker was a Canadian, Cavelle Macdonell, BFA, BEd. She had recently arrived in Benalmadena Costa from Vancouver, British Columbia where she was teaching Fine Arts and Literature. You can view her Paintings and Photography on-line at https://cavelle.net/
Cavelle ended on a poetic note and read a poem by a highly acclaimed American Poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, born May 25 1803 in Boston, Mass.
ART
Essays:First Series 1841
by
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Give to barrows, trays, and pans
Grace and glimmer of romance;
Bring the moonlight into noon
Hid in gleaming piles of stone;
On the city's paved street
Plant gardens lined with lilac sweet;
Let spouting fountains cool the air,
Singing in the sun-baked square;
Let statue, picture, park, and hall,
Ballad, flag, and festival,
The past restore, the day adorn,
And make each morrow a new morn.
So shall the drudge in dusty frock
Spy behind the city clock
Retinues of airy kings,
Skirts of angels, starry wings,
His fathers shining in bright fables,
His children fed at heavenly tables.
'T is the privilege of Art
Thus to play its cheerful part,
Man in Earth to acclimate,
And bend the exile to his fate,
And, moulded of one element
With the days and firmament,
Teach him on these as stairs to climb,
And live on even terms with Time;
Whilst upper life the slender rill
Of human sense doth overfill.
The date for the next Chapter Meeting was set for Tuesday, the 14th September 2010 at Regina´s Restaurant.
The meeting closed at 12.10 pm
